Kevin,
Can you tell me how long this video is?

I’d also like additional information about your upcoming event in Warrenville IL. I am a local and would love to attend. Are you from the area? Perhaps you could unload some review gear on me =)

Thanks,
Phil

Coffee Brewing Secrets DVD is and hour+ of experts showing how to maximize brewing using the top methods. Auto drip, manual drip, vacuum, espresso and milk foaming are the core subjects. Oh, yes, and cupping/tasting coffee.

Our CoffeeCon event is February 25 at the IBEW here in Warrenville. I wanted to create the event I wish I had when I started researching coffee. It’s a way to try a lot of brewers, lots of different coffees, and even attend an on-site hands-on tutorial guided by experts. I wasted a lot of money early on expensive gear and coffees before I knew how to brew. I’m trying to save people money and give them a chance to sample – simple as that. We’ll have an onsite page and registration soon.

I have not reviewed it, but the question is: how do you like it? Does it produce an espresso or cappuccino that’s worthy to you? At this price point, most espresso machines do a credible job. The single greatest limitation in most espresso setups in this range is the grinder.

I must confess that I spent a lot of time tnryig to get a good coffee maker, I had a Krups Single Serve My Cafe for about a year, I was never happy with it anyway. I am the only coffee drinker in my family, so I do not want to shop for a drip 10 cup type of coffee machine, so I bought this one. Here is my review of this machine: 1. Build quality Yes, the knob and top cover is a bit of hard to turn, build quality is so so, but I think the inards of this machine is ok, it generate steam quickly and appear to be built with no better or worse quality than many of the steam type espresso machines. 2. Coffee Here is something that I am really surprise of, I think it makes great coffee, I run through it with three different kind of Ethiopian coffee, to my surprise, I can tell the subtle different among them, this machine produce very good coffee. Coffee is also hot enough contrary to some of the reviews mentioned. 3. Cost I think this is a very good deal considering I spent more than $100 for a single serve machine but I do not get the enjoyment of coffee from that, I do now. 4. Design it looks ok and do not occupy a lot of counter space. I actually think it has appeal of its own. Be aware of the amount of water you pour in, I usually turn off the machine before the last drop get vaporized, otherwise, your coffee will taste a little bit overdone. I think this is a good machine as long as you treat it gently, it may not have the best build quality but it gets the job done. I am happy.

Review by Jeanette R. Thompson for Rating: I reviewed many dinrefeft coffee makers after our Bunn which we had for 12 years or more starting leaking. We had another Bunn before that one which we had for a few years. I checked the Consumers Report for their best buys in coffee makers and reviewed the comments and prices. Some of the reviews for their best buy coffee makers were not always good. Mr Coffee has many models and not always good reviews. I decided to go with Mr Coffee SR 13 which had all 5 stars on the reviews. Granted there was only 4 reviews. I just bought the basic Mr Coffee with out any bells and whistles; just put in the grounds, water and turn on the switch. It doesn’t take too long for the coffee to brew and we turn off the switch after brewing and warm up any coffee consumed later in the microwave. We have had the maker only a month but so far it is great and makes a good cup of coffee.

Question:About temp controlSome pelpoe do not put the grounds in until after the water is in the upper chamberSome pelpoe don’t put the upper chamber on until after the water is at a boilSome pelpoe put a damp cloth on the bottom chamber, (or place the bottom chamber on a tile or stone counter for stove top pots) to cool it and speed up the vacuum.Have you tried out any of these methods?

Yes, I have. The cold compress method of speeding up a vacuum is effective, but be careful as I have actually cracked the lower bowl due to sudden temperature drop. I don’t put the halves together until water is near boiling. I never put the coffee in after the water rises, but I observed Mike Ebert, who instructed his method at CoffeeCON, do this.

I use a happy medium grind on the scale 1-13 on my Solis Scala for the Chemex mtohed with good results. I used a coarser(around setting between # 4-5) setting today for my Bodum Santos and it clogged. I think I’ve never had it clog on this setting before. Then I tried #3 setting and it took at least 2 minutes to get the coffee down. And btw my grinder is only 8 or 9 months old. What could be wrong here ?

Sorry Linda, I’m guessing here, but sometimes grinders get out of calibration. That is, the setting numbers no longer mean the same thing. I’d suggest brewing with the Chemex using a matching coarse grind (by eye) and then go a few notes finer from there for your other find grinds. However, there is also a chance your Bodum Santos clogging has nothing to do with grind fineness. I have had many vacuum brewers get clogged up. Usually, it is about the vacuum seal losing its pressure. I’d try once more with the same grind your failed brew used before trying anything more dynamic.

Review by Rachel Greggs for Rating: I bought this coeffe maker as a present for my fiance9′s birthday. I don’t know much about coeffe and neither does he. He’s started drinking coeffe lately so I decided to save some money and buy him a coeffe maker. This coeffe maker was perfect to introduce him to the world of coeffe. It has all the basics a novice needs and a few tricks that he’ll need as he starts to get addicted. It’s worked wonderfully so far. It’s simple and easy to use. It’s so easy to clean that he actually cleans it after each use. I love (and I know he does too) the delay brew function as he can get everything ready the night before and have coeffe brewing as he takes his shower in the morning. I’m pleased that it has a pause and serve function so he can grab a quick cup to get himself going while it finishes brewing. Plus it looks great in the kitchen! It’s a good, simple coeffe maker without a whole lot of confusing buttons that is perfect for a novice coeffe lover.

Sorry, my alerts for this site must have gotten turned off. This is too early to need new burrs, unless your’s running a coffee shop. They can drift out of alignment. Sounds like you have too many fines, which are almost powder. I’d back off to a coarser grind and see if things improve.
